Lent means music
Lent begins on February 14, which means that Easter comes EARLY this year! Here are some dates and opportunities you’ll want to take into consideration as you plan your observance of this important time in the church year.
Ash Wednesday is February 14.
The service on that date at 7:00 p.m. will be comprised of music by our Chancel Choir as well as Celtic Harpist, Thom Dutton, and will mark the beginning of the Lenten Season. The service will include the imposition of ashes.
Nauset Ringers in Worship – February and March The sound of handbells in worship at Federated Church of Orle-ans is now a REGULAR monthly occurrence! On Sunday, Febru-ary 11, and Sunday, March 18, their Director, Thom Dutton, will lead them in a Prelude and Musical Message. Their repertoire and skills continue to develop under Thom’s leadership.
Holy Week – 2018 Palm Sunday is March 25. The Worship Hour will include special music by the choir and soloists will mark the celebration of Palm Sunday and Jesus' entry into Jerusalem which leads to the poign-ant events of Holy Week.
The Maundy Thursday Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on March 29, and will include Organ, Flute, Harp, Handbells and Choir. We will celebrate Holy Communion as we remember Jesus' Last Sup-per, and then have our beautiful service of Tenebrae with read-ings, music, and the gradual extinguishing of light.
Easter Sunday is April 1, 2018. YES, there will be guest musi-cians, including brass! And choral expressions, including a sing-along Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah! We lift our voic-es in praise and celebration of the Risen Christ.
