Summer Music plans
SUMMER IS HERE! At The Federated Church of Orleans that means there will be guests and visitors in the homes of our members and in our Sunday worship services. There’ll be a different assortment of voices to sing the hymns, new hands to shake and smiles to share, as well as a procession of “fresh voices of inspiration and action” in the pulpit.
While it’s true, people on vacation may be reluctant to “work” at their destination. After all, some of vacation is about NOT working. But musicians are different. Surely you’ve noticed that. So consider this: Do you have family members or acquaintances who are musicians and are planning to be HERE in worship during the summer? Would you like for the congregation to hear them play/sing? If the answer is yes, please do the following two things:
Ask them point blank if they would be willing to share with the congregation during a Sunday Worship.
If the answer is “yes” let our Minister of Music know by calling 508-255-3060, ext. 13, or by email to Music@fedchurchorleans.org. Let us know the date(s) they are available and their contact information. We’ll take it from there.
MUSICAL PLANS FOR FALL OK, we just finished Music Sunday on June 18th. That means THREE musical seasons have passed at Federated Church of Orleans since I began as our Minister of Music. We’ve enjoyed many things together: holidays, Christmas concert, Music Sunday in December, Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Easter, Pentecost, and lastly, a meaningful and memorable Spring Music Sunday. Many thanks to all the individuals who participated in the Chancel Choir, the Nauset Ringers, and in our SINGING CONGREGATION! None of this would have happened without our musician volunteers – the singers in the Chancel Choir and the ringers in the Nauset Ringers! Big thank you’s to ALL who participated.
Ministers of Music and Directors of Handbell Choirs work something like school teachers. They use their summer months to study, rehearse, select and acquire new repertoire, plan rehearsals and performances, and do some recruiting. So this is a call for volunteers! Volunteers to attend a weekly rehearsal and commit to regular participation in the worship services. The Nauset Ringers will meet Mondays at 7:00 p.m. beginning September 11. The Chancel Choir will rehearse on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. beginning September 6. Sunday, September 10 will be RALLY DAY – the beginning of a new musical/holiday year. Go ahead and enjoy your summer days, but plan now to participate in one of these groups come fall. That way you’ll have something to look forward to as summer winds down. And it will. You know it will.
