News from our youth
On November 13, eight of our youth gathered in the Vestry for pizza, video, and discussion. The youth were joined by Rev. Sally Norris, Becky Fischer, and Sandra Sawyer. We watched an inspiring video of Rev. Nadia Bolz-Weber – a really hip, contemporary (tattoos and all) Lutheran minister who pastors a church in Denver called The House for all Sinners and Saints. Professionally trained as a stand-up comic, Rev. Nadia speaks a lively, faith-filled message about God and the church. Our youth especially related (and would love to try!) some of the things she does in her church: Worship in the round! A chocolate fountain on Easter Sunday, or any Sunday! Dancing at the conclusion of the Easter service to celebrate the Resurrection! Worship in which parts are not pre-assigned. In her church, congregants spontaneously volunteer to lead a prayer, read scripture, etc. Our youth loved all these ideas. Are you willing to try?
Also from our Youth: We are having a Youth Advent Party on Saturday, December 3 beginning at 5:00 pm in the Vestry: music, dancing, and a service project. All youth and their friends invited! Rev. Sally Norris, Becky Fischer, and Sandra Sawyer will be hosting the party, but we’d be grateful for any help! Let us know.
