JUSTICE COMMITTEE REPORT
The Justice Committee has been very active. At our last meeting in June, Sharon Leder provided suggested follow up to the program on the Opioid Crisis that was held in our church in May. Some of the proposals were - follow up with the schools as to how they could provide programs on drugs and alcohol for students. It has also been recommended that the Nauset Interfaith Association set up a task force dealing with the Opioid crisis on the Cape, as it would have more influence in dealing with the schools on this issue.
The letter writing campaign on legislation dealing with nutrition of women and children in our own country and severe problems in other parts of the world that do not have the money to deal with this issue. Some 30 letters were sent from our congregation. Congress is in the process of passing this legislation. We have been commended for our action from Bread for the World, which has been lobbying for this legislation.
Sarah Peake is sponsoring legislation that would monitor the decommissioning of the Pilgrim Nuclear Plant.
