Walking the Labyrinth at Twilight
In God we live and have our being Acts 17:28
We gather quietly at the labyrinth
each holding a tiny light
the light of each heart
the light of each silent prayer.
The sun is just setting
and our shadows move silently
over the curving paths.
The walk is illuminated by small lights
making the labyrinth look like
a constellation of stars
mirrored on the ground.
As we walk silently
no bird is singing
no cars are honking
and I feel my heart beating.
As we walk we pass one another
each of us lost in his own thoughts and
The winding path makes me think
of the turns and twists of my life
the joys and sadness of a long life.
As we approach the center
friends may be collecting
open to receive the guidance
and peace of God.
Now we are silent on the path out
knowing we are changed
by that walk of Peace in the twilight.
